Great news for Sumatra's forests

Home WWF Passport - Action Alert

Dear Friends,

The Indonesian island of Sumatra holds some of the world's most amazing and diverse forests. They provide livelihoods for millions of people and yet shelter some of the world's rarest species. It is the only place on earth where endangered rhinos, elephants, tigers and orangutans can be found together.

However since the 1980s Sumatra has lost nearly 50% of its forest cover to logging and agriculture.

But today we have some amazing news to report. Provincial governments across Sumatra as well as the Indonesian government have just signed the first-ever island-wide commitment to protect Sumatra's stunning biodiversity.

Say thank you to the officials for their bold and courageous action.

This declaration is great news in the efforts to protect what remains of Sumatra's species-rich forests.

Send a message of thanks today and urge them to continue their efforts and save Sumatra's forests.

WWF and its partners in Sumatra will now be working with the authorities to help make this commitment a reality.

Thank you,

WWF International
